THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. " - (Thomas Paine, Crisis in America, 1776)
As Paine states, “These are the times”! These words written over 200 years ago are just as true today as they were when first penned in December of 1776, at one of the darkest points of the American Revolution.
American patriots starving and freezing at Valley Forge. Washington’s Army crumbling before his eyes, the Revolution might have died that winter had it not been for the resolve of men like General George Washington, Thomas Paine, the roughly 2500 patriots who remained in camp with Washington, and of course all of our founding fathers.
Please remember how Washington and his soldiers crossed the Delaware river, freezing, starving, some with no boots, slogging through snow and mud to finally arrive at Trenton, New Jersey to engage and defeat the Hessians, our poorly trained ragtag army versus a professional army, and with that victory the American patriot's guaranteed that the Revolution would not die that winter and provided the momentum that would provide us with the America we love.
Do we not owe it to them, ourselves, our children and our country to give our all, to resolve to give our best just as they did over 200 years ago?
We cannot shrink from OUR duty to protect and defend our country and Constitution. Now is our time to be heard, now is our time to continue the revolution to reclaim America and to bring it back to what our founding fathers first envisioned, when they too had to fight for their freedoms!
Now is the time to rebuild the America that we all grew up in, the America we love, the America that as Ronald Reagan says “Is a shining city”, the “America that stands as a beacon of freedom” for all free people on this planet! The America “whose best days are still ahead and not behind!”
We must stand with our brothers and sisters who are organizing, fighting, voting, and striving with all their heart and strength to save this great country from the looters in Congress.
We must stand with them, we must hit the phones to call, and we must email everyone that we can. We must make our voices heard in congress and across the land!
Again I quote Thomas Paine - “The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.” (These words bring tears to my eyes!)
I know we are tired, I know that it seems like an uphill battle, yet, we are making a difference and we cannot shrink from our duty, not only to ourselves, but to our children and to every American living and dead who fought and died so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today!
“Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.” - Thomas Paine
